December's News Letter

So… It’s Christmas Time… 2009 …Detroit Style! Ladies and gentlemen, friends and fans – we are looking forward to our last show of 2009 that is coming up this Saturday night/December 26. ROBUSTOS 19271 Mack Ave Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236 9:30 PM – No Cover! Call 313-881-0100 for reservations! As we look forward to this show we are reflective. We have had an incredible year, having enjoyed so many great experiences and warm connections and reconnections in 2009. One of those re-connections was with our friends Brian and Mark Pastoria at Harmonie Park Studios. We recorded “It’s Written All Over Your Face” there this past March and had such an amazing time. The Look and Adrenalin have always had a great relationship as bands and it was fun to be downtown recording with my friends Jimmie Bones and Johnny Bee, Bob Monteleone (my brother from a different mother) and Jeff Amato (my relentless manager and friend). At this session, the Christmas In Detroit Volume 3 compilation came up – Brian had asked if we would do a Christmas song for the record, “Maybe write one?” he said. So, Bob – fearing having to play “Rockin Around The Christmas Tree” wrote us a song that made the record called “It’s Christmas Time”. “It’s Christmas Time” is our tribute to Ray Charles and The Beatles (OK it’s just in our heads). We are proud of the song and even got to perform it Thanksgiving morning on WDIV (Channel 4) during the Parade. Our song – along with new ones by The Howling Diablos. The Hell Drivers, Skeleton Crew, Stewart Francke and more – are available on the 3-disc CHRISTMAS IN DETROIT compilation that is available on www.christmasindetroit.org The site tells you where you can purchase a physical copy or download it. It is an amazing collection and we are very proud to be on it and a part of last week’s cd release party/concert that took place at the Winter Garden at the Ren Cen. Magic! Here is how I remember 2009: · January – Recording Lone Survivor · February – More recording and 2009 gigs began. · March – Recorded “It’s Written All Over Your Face” at Hamonie Park Studios. “Written” was the last song recorded for the record and it was a landmark session for us. The song was mixed in Burbank, CA by Tony Ugval (Feist, Sting & Lady Ga Ga) · April – More shows including Detroit Tiger’s opening day at Hockeytown Café in Downtown Detroit for WCSX. Lone Survivor manufactured. · May – Lone Survivor is released and our CD release show is at Mario’s in Troy, MI with special guests Barry Holdship, Bob Monteleone and Leonard Moon on keys. The cops shut us down before we hit the climax but – it was a sweet night. · June – more shows promoting Lone Survivor · July – A huge highlight – we got to open for The Hell Drivers at Boomer’s Roadhouse on July 25th · August – Among our usual dates we played outdoors for WCSX for the Dream Cruise Weekend and we got to play with Mark Pazman as his “Super Sessions” Band at Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak, MI · September – we had the opportunity to open up the Randy Bachman show – part of the WCSX Rockin’ On The Riverfront Concert Series! We had a really great show – in fact you can see some of our performance on YouTube! · October – I had some Dave time off – where I began to write the next record · November – More shows and benefits and another great night playing with the Hell Drivers at Callahans on the night before Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving Day, Bob and I performed live from the parade on WDIV debuting our Christmas song “It’s Christmas Time” · December – More shows – including playing with my guys at the Wintergarten in downtown Detroit as part of the Christmas In Detroit Release Party – augmented by Bob Monteleone on guitar and Jimmie Bones on keyboards. I also sat in with Tino & The Diablos for “Christmas In Jail” & “Christmas In Detroit”! Plus I got to see my hero Delbert McClinton play in Ann Arbor. Oh yeah… one of our producer/engineer/mix-masters – TONY UGVAL – was nominated for a Grammy for Album Of The Year (Lady Ga Ga). A truly great month! ALSO: I got to put out digitally THE LONDON SESSIONS EP – which are a handful of tracks from The Look’s first album that was produced by Johnny Sandlin (Allman Brothers). I got my first Metro Times CD review in 20 years I appeared on the legendary Pam Rossi show in July and my new CD has been played on WCSX & WRIF – an incredible honor. My music is available through iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon, Our web site, our shows – I feel more than fortunate and optimistic as I look to the future and having my music heard. Merry Christmas to you all – I look forward to playing for you in 2010 and for as long as I am able. Thanks for reading. Dave Edwards New Haven, MI December 23, 2009
